Final Designs

Art Work Title : The Orb

Visual treatment
i) Art Movement : Expressionism
ii) Referenced Artist : Franz Marc
iii) Theme Chosen : Environmentalism
iv) Ideation & Concept : 3 persons are surrounding the orb, making the orb the main focus of the whole artwork. The tree is within the orb, symbolizing the orb is protecting the tree, as it is the last tree on earth. The humans are coloured using the 3 primary colours, red, blue, and yellow. The message is to ask people to start planting trees, in order for us to still have this natural oxygen supplier.

Art Work Title : Solitude

Visual Treatment
i) Art Movement : Expressionism
ii) Referenced Artist : Franz Marc
iii) Theme Chosen : Environmentalism
iv) Ideation & Concept : The main focus is on the mood portrayed by the human in the middle. The darkest colour is used, and also the largest portion of the artwork is taken up by the human to emphasize on this focal point. The static background that provides the lines conflicting shows that he is in a very depressed state, as he is the last person on Earth, and also at the same time, has to face the huge amount of garbage around him. The message of this artwork is to ask each and every single one of us to recycle more and dump less.

Art Work Title : Hourglass

Visual Treatment
i) Art Movement : Expressionism
ii) Referenced Artist : Franz Marc
iii) Theme Chosen : Environmentalism
iv) Ideation & Concept : The hourglass is there to tell us that as time goes on, the trees, as of everything, will one day decay and die. Thus, we should appreciate the time given to us, and do our best to protect the Earth as much as we can. When the artwork is rotated 180 degrees, the artwork actually shows a dead tree with poisonous smoke (as green smoke always does represents) constantly polluting its roots.

The Process

The Orb

1. "Open File"

2. Used "Crop" to take out the additional white spaces around the sketch

 3. Image > Image Size.

 4.  Changed the canvas size to the dimensions as shown below.

 5. Image > Adjustments > Levels.

 6. Adjusted the "Levels" so as to produce higher contrast.

 7. Artwork after "Levels" adjusted

 8. Used "Magic Wand" to select the tree in the orb. Then used "Brush" (B) tool to paint the tree.

 9. Final tree as shown below.

 10. Used the same procedures from 6 to 9 to do the same for the human on the left.
"Filter" > "Film Grain" to produce the following effect.

11. Did the same thing for the human on the right. Used the colour red to show different entities

12. Same for the human on top of the orb. Used the colour yellow instead.

 13. Used similar steps, but increased brush size to create inner glow from within the orb itself.

14. Arranged the layers, and produced the artwork as shown below

15. Added a crumpled paper texture by just dragging the image from my file to the canvas. I then scaled the image to make it fit my canvas. Instead of putting it as "Normal", I used "Overlay" and placed this on top of all the other layers.

Solitude
1. Open up image like stated above.

2. Used "Crop" tool

3. Adjusted image size. Image > Image Size

4. Used "Magic Wand" tool to select the garbage bags on top. Used "Brush" tool to colour.

5. Used "Magic Wand" tool again to select the outline.

6. Used "Magnetic Lasso" tool to select the human in the center.

7. Used "Brush" tool to colour the image as shown below to create a glowing effect from the center.

8. Used "Magic Wand" tool to select the garbage bags underneath and coloured using "Brush" tool.

9. Added "Static" texture. Used "Overlay" without "Desaturate" because the grey and white colour suits the artwork.

Hourglass

1. Adjusted "Levels" to provide contrast.

2. Used "Magic Wand" to select the tree branch and used "Brush" tool to colour it.

3. Used similar steps for the "leaves" of the tree. Used "Brush" to only create spots.

4. Used step 2 for the tree's roots.

5. Added the background by dragging the image from file and scaled it to fit the canvas. Also used Edit > Transform > Rotate.

6. Used "Magnetic Lasso" to select the outline of the branch and leaves on the "upper" part of the hourglass.

7. used "Clone Stamp" to draw part roots on the original line of the hourglass to make them look as though they are part of the roots of the tree.

8. Referred to "Lunacore Photoshop Tutorial" (http://www.lunacore.com/photoshop/tutorials/tut009.htm) to create hourglass. Used "Lasso" tool to select the whole hourglass.

9. Used "Paint Bucket" tool to paint the first bottom layer of hourglass.

10. Added another layer and applied the following settings.

11. Added another layer and used "Gradient" tool.

12. Duplicated first layer of hourglass and applied "Inner Shadow" settings as followed.

13. Applied "Inner Glow" settings on the same layer as shown.

14. Initial stages of hourglass completed.

15. Adjusted few of the coordinates and the final hourglass looks as shown.

16. Added the "Blue" texture again.

17. Image > Adjustments > Desaturate to remove the colours of the "Blue" texture.

18. Put the "Blue" texture on top of ALL layers and used "Overlay".

19. Final touch ups on roots by zooming in and using "Lasso Tool", "Eyedropper Tool", and "Brush" tool.

20. Used the same steps to create the upper and lower part of hourglass.
